Paper ~ Páipéar

For our print products, we use two types of paper.

One is a textured, 310gsm cotton rag paper typically used in museum and art exhibition spaces.

Fibres used in cotton paper production are a by-product of the textile industry and would most likely otherwise go to landfill. This type of paper has the advantage of being 100% tree-free.

Our second paper-type is a premium 240gsm matt paper that is used by professional photographers and artists to make prints of their works.

This matt paper is FSC-certified.

All of our paper is sourced in Ireland from environmentally conscious suppliers.

Ink ~ Dúch

We use professional-grade, eco-friendly, water-based inks that are free from PVC, phthalates, ozone-depleting chemicals and aromatic hydrocarbons.

Instead of using ink cartridges to replenish our printer inks, we use ink bottle refills.

The production of new ink cartridges is energy-intensive and requires significant amounts of fossil fuels, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.

Our ink bottle refills are made with recycled and fully recyclable Plastic #5, which is the same plastic used for yogurt containers.

Tote bags ~ Málaí tót

Our totes are heavyweight 300gsm, durable, canvas tote made from 80% Recycled Cotton, 20% Recycled Polystyrene.

The designs are screen-printed (using water-based eco inks) so that the bag can be washed a lot of times without the colours fading away, unlike digital methods of printing which tend to fade quickly after multiple washes.

The canvas bag itself is provided by Stanley Stella, a leader in the global fashion industry when it comes to ethical and sustainable textiles.

The Fair Wear certification means the totes were made by workers in safe, dignified and decently paid employment, where human rights are respected.

Scarves ~ Scairfeanna

Our Jacquard scarves are designed in Ireland and manufactured in Portugal (there are no manufacturers in Ireland) using processes and materials that result in a long-lasting product.

Cheaper scarves end up as landfill far too quickly. Our focus is on making scarves that last for year-after-year.

There are no options to manufacture Jacquard scarves in Ireland which is why we use a small business in Portugal to produce them.

Pacáistí - Packaging

We don’t use cardboard tubes as packaging for our prints as they are more susceptible to damage during transit (they can get squashed) and more harmful to the environment because of the top and bottom plastic caps.

Our rigid 400 gsm Kraft cardboard shipping envelopes for prints are made from 100% recycled material, recyclable, bend resistant and have corner edge protection.

Prints inside our Kraft envelopes are protected by acid-free, unglazed, tissue paper which is fully recyclable and carries no risk of tarnishing or damaging print surfaces. (In retail spaces, we use cornstarch-cellophane with board backing so the customer can clearly see the print product).

Depending on the size of your order, or the destination, we may have to use bubble-wrap envelopes. These are made from 60% recycled materials and designed to tear apart easily for 100% recycling.

Stickers can really mess with recycling so we only use them when we have no choice e.g. shipping outside Ireland.

Recycling best practices recommend removing stamps and stickers from envelopes before placing the envelope in recycling (or, better yet, reuse the envelope).
